Butterfly Pedersen

Here we will be tying the Butterfly Pedersen by mr. Jón Sigurðsson. The fly is a great option for both stream and lake fishing and was designed in 2009 by mr. Sigurðsson. The Butterfly Pedersen was dedicated to a mutual friend of ours mr. Jón Pedersen. Jón sigurðsson told me personally. It's right to mention that the Butterfly Pedersen is a variant of the original Butterfly that you can find in another video here on the channel. The story with both of the Butterflies is that that Jón was fishing in an unnamed spot there in the Westfjords close to the village I'm from and saw some fish but the fish wouldn't take. Jón was staying at this same spot for up to a week! So he started to look around in the environment to see if he'd find some insects. First he didn't found anything but when he saw some tiny movement in and around straws that were in the lake, he found some insects that were close to the straws and inside them. When he got back home, he has a look at the pictures he took of those insects and started to try to imitate them by the vise. And the outcome was the original Butterfly model with a silver body, brown wing and dark legs. Tied that way the Butterfly is fantastic and worked out great. However later on in 2007 Jón told me about the Butterfly model and gave me few of them to try them out. I decided to try to tie few my self and tie them with hotspots. They worked very well on brown trout and I showed Jón them and he was very fond of the idea. So he started to tie them with hotspots in them and even with pure body out of some globrite materials. All of them worked but the one I tie in this video is my own idea about the colour setup. Both the fish and then Jón loved this version so this video is dedicated to him since he was a really true and good friend. I could write a whole thesis about Jón as an angler and fly tier. More videos with this flies are coming in in the future. The Butterfly catches brown trout, arctic char and salmon. All those species have been caught on this simple Butterfly fly. It's rather simple and satisfying to tie and totally worth keeping a few in your box when you go fishing! I highly recommend the Butterfly Pedersen by my friend mr. Sigurðsson.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
