Micro Frances Plug

Here we will be tying a Micro version of one of the most famous salmon pattern of all times, Frances. Originally made and styled another fly called Black Eyed Prawn by Peter Dean in the UK. It almost became an instant classic in the mid 60's. It's named after Miss Frances Hydon, but she was Peters fly tying assistant. As we all know, the fly evolved from a shrimp pattern named Black Eyed Prawn. Pretty much the same idea. What's identical on the Frances is the antennas. You can find them on more flies today that may be influenced by the original Frances, patterns such as Krafla, Snælda, Franc n Snaelda and the Zelda patter by mr. Kjartan Antonsson. The Micro Frances is often a game changers when it comes to the part of the salmon seasons when you have low water, sunny days and bright weather. When the salmon is not biting the larger sized flies, often you must level the hook size down and try the micro versions. Often that's the key to a catch! The Frances fly is a great pattern for the north Atlantic salmon and needs no further introduction. It's known to works perfect int the midsummer and the fall. It's simple to tie but a little challenge and totally worth to carry few in your box when you go fishing!

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
