Leisenring’s Tups Nymph

This is #11 of Leisenring’s favorite 12 patterns and the first of two nymphs.

The recipe does not include a tail but there is one in the walk through tying section of the book. An image of this fly tied by Jim at the end of the video shows a rib of small gold wire. Both these options are up to you.

The tying sequence has you wrap the back half of the body with twist only so it will be more translucent than if it has waxed thread below it. This fly though can be tied without waxing the tying thread making the process simpler if you choose.

#11. Tups Nymph :
Hook: 13, 14
Silk: primrose yellow
Hackle: very small light blue hen hackle or medium-dark honey dun hen hackle
Body: halved, rear half primrose yellow buttonhole twist; thorax yellow and claret seal
fur mixed spun on primrose yellow silk
