Fly Tying Videos meet the Podcast - and Skips Dad is there!

Jim Stuard and I have created something of a fly fishing break-through. We've released a series of fly tying video podcasts that are, AFAIK, the first on the Internet. An extension of a monthly fly tying column for Federation of Fly Fishers affiliate club The Buckeye United Fly Fishers, the project has taken on a life of its own with eight episodes currently released and available through Apple’s iTunes™ web site. A new episode is added each month. Each fly tying program offers clear and detailed video of the tying process and informative commentary explaining how and why the fly was chosen for inclusion, how best to fish the pattern, and tips and tricks to make tying the fly fast and easy. The fly tying podcasts, titled Adventures in Fly Tying, are available for free download.

Adventures in Fly Tying is available as a direct download in either Windows Media or Apple QuickTime directly from http://www.flyfishohio.com. Additionally, all Adventures in Fly Tying episodes are listed with popular aggregator sites using the RSS system. Episodes can be played on any computer equipped with sound and graphics capability, and can even be burned to a CD or DVD for use at club meetings or other non-commercial activities.

Current titles in the project include the Simple Shad, the Sparrow, the James Wood Bucktail, the Modern Thief, the Morrisfoam Predator, the Steelhead Bee, the Crackleback, and Skip’s Dad. Upcoming patterns include the Arkansas Bucktail, Tap’s Bug, the Light Spruce streamer and the Skykomish Sunrise.

This month's fly is Skips Dad. This is definitely a fly you want in your kit for late summer smallmouth and rockbass action in low, clear creeks. Its a very good trout fly, too!

Tight lines!
